The present work is concerned with the determination of material model parameters by use of inverse methods. The method used is related to recent work with inverse modelling for parameter estimation and uses the same software system. In the present work, the study is based on the results from a closed die pressing experiment which is considered to represent a homogenous state of stress and strain. Thus, the closed die experiment can be modelled with use of one element and the results from the analyses are compared with the axial and radial responses from the experiment. The object function in the inverse analysis is based on both the axial and radial responses. All non-elastic parameters of the model are determined simultaneously in the optimisation procedure. The parameter set obtained is used in an analysis of the pressing of a H-section axi-symmetric component and the results are compared with experimentally obtained density values. The presented methods represent a simple and straightforward procedure to evaluate new powder mixes in connection with powder pressing analyses.
