This report describes the results of theoretical and experimental investigations of the process that occurs in a cylindrical powder bed of Ni-Al when it is explosively loaded at elevated temperatures. The investigation shows that the intense deformations in the problem are linked to the magnitude and relative proportions of the normal and tangent stress components of the cylindrically converging shock wave. The particular problem concerns itself with the treatment of the powdered material by the sliding front edge of the detonation wave at the hot cylindrical surface. These results and key features of the aructure/property relationships of the hot explosively loaded Ni-Al powder (at T = 20-1,000℃; P = 5-20 GPa) as a function of the loading conditions are discussed.
