This paper provides an overview of our project, Exploratory Analysis of Box-Plant Trucking-Logistics in the Paper Industry, sponsored by two Sloan Foundation Industry Studies Program Centers, the Center for Paper Business and Industry Studies and the Trucking Industry Program. Interviews conducted during visits to several box plants have provided a basic understanding of issues that underlie current trucking logistics practices at different types of boxplant facilities. This understanding, combined with insights from the existing literature on trucking logistics provided the intellectual basis for creating a survey instrument aimed at developing trucking logistics “best practices” evaluation criteria
