This paper investigates the hydrostatic stress distribution in the high-carbon steel wiredrawing process using finite element method analysis. Examination of the locations and magnitudes of the peaks of hydrostatic stress in the deformation zone can be very helpful in estimating the tendency toward central bursting in drawing. This paper covers the influence of different parameters on hydrostatic stress, which can be used to optimize drawing conditions to reduce the risk of central bursting.
