Nuclear energy is very often used to generate electricity.rnBut first the energy must be released fromrnatoms which can be done in two ways: nuclear fusionrnand nuclear fission. Nuclear power plants usernnuclear fission to produce electrical energy. Electricalrnenergy generated in nuclear power plantsrndoes not produce polluting combustion gases likernrenewable energy, an important fact that could playrna key role helping to reduce global greenhouse gasrnemissions and tackling global warming especiallyrnas electricity energy demand rises in the yearsrnahead. This could be assumed as an ideal win-winrnsituation, but the reverse is that the production ofrnhigh-level nuclear waste outweighs this advantage.rnBecause the safe and sustaining storage of highlevelrnnuclear waste is not solved yet and of highrnpolitical and public concern.
