Most of the surfactants employed in alkali/surfactant/polymer(ASP) flooding system are mixture of surfactants .However, few studies have been conducted on how mixtures of surfactants lower interfacial tension between water and oil. In this paper,synergistic effect in lowering interfacialtension between oil and branched alkybenzenesulfonates with different types of alkane preference curve is studied. The results show that(1) Ultralow interfacial tension can be observed in surfactant/ crude oil system when the nmin of surfantant mixtures is close to the equivalent alkane carbon number (EACN) value of crude oil, however, interfacial tension between water and oil can not be reduced to ultra-low when the nmin of mixtures of surfantants is far from the equivalent alkane carbon number (EACN) value of crude oil; (2)When surfactants with different types of alkane preference curve and great difference in interfacial activity was mixed, mixtures of surfantants gave the similar nmin/γmin relationship as single surfactant with high activity.
