By well-controlled experiment and FEM simulations, the yield strength and the ultimate loadings of the empennage stringer in the rear wind of airplane with different cross-sections and stringer lengths have been investigated in detail. The test specimens and conditions are designed according to the FAA standard. Based on the test and simulation results, the optimization and improvement of the empennage stringer design have been discussed.
