In this paper, we propose a novel constellation extension scheme to reduce the peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) of orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) signals. The key idea of the proposed scheme is to extend the original signals constellation to another one with larger size, in which two constellation points are used to represent one data symbol with different phases, respectively. One of the two constellation points is the original constellation point and the left is the extended constellation point. When the proposed constellation extension scheme employs the idea of the traditional partial transmit sequence (T-PTS), it obtains much better PAPR reduction without any side information compared with the T-PTS method. Although the transmit power of the proposed scheme increases little, both the conducted simulations and theoretical analysis results show that the proposed constellation extension scheme can offer better PAPR reduction performance than that of the T-PTS method.
