The effects of no-tillage with mulch (NT) on soil physical and chemical properties were evaluated in the study by both field experiments and laboratory analysis. Compared with conventional tillage (CT), the longer NT practice was carried out, the higher proportions of water-stable aggregate content were. Data suggested that average soil water content could reach up to 12% under NT, indicating such practice had a more efficient effect on water retention especially during drought periods. Soil organic matter was also increased by 10.7% and 26% in the field which had been managing by NT for 2 years and 5 years, comparing with the fields of CT. Soil total P content was higher than the one in CT filed by 87% as well, however, content of K had a trend of lowering and N content did not change significantly in the field of NT for 5 years. Results also showed that wind erosion on farmland could be controlled by NT practice. Therefore, NT can improve soil quality evidently.
