Farmer households' Fuel Substitution:A Buffer of Ecological Restoration in Changting's Soil Erosion Region

Firewood collection, which leads to r degradation of vegetable, water loss and soil erosion, is r the farmers' daily activity. By analyzing the change of r historical water loss and soil erosion area, the construction r and thermal efficiency change of farmers' fuel, this study r confirms that woodland is the primary land-use style which r results in water loss and soil erosion, farmer's average r efficient thermal value is 1957.5 MJ·a-1 per capita, r and the biomass growth for firewood is 7767 kg·hm-2·a-1 in r Changting County. The paper analyzes the volume r variances of farmers' fuel consumption between the soil r conservation region and non-measure region, and calculates r farmers' fuel substitution contribution by using Ecological r Footprint (EF) method. The results show that the woodland EF r of fuel substitution in soil conservation region is r 3747 hectare, including 1558 hectare (41.6%) of biogas, in r Changting County in 2009. It suggests that fuel r substitution plays a crucial role in soil conservation region, some r incentive countermeasures about fuel substitution are r proposed.
