Abstract: Inter-regional passenger demand is often surveyed on site. In Japan, “net passenger trafficrnsurvey” on the inter-regional trips was started in 1990 and is repeated every five years. The survey isrnmade to the on-trip passengers by using paper based questionnaire, since the home based survey isrninefficient to collect the trip makers. On the other hand, web survey becomes popular since it has thernadvantages to easily and quickly collect the samples and to be able to control the sample attribute byrnscreening of the respondents. The danger of sampling bias is, however, often claimed that thernpopulation of samples is limited to web-users. This study conducts the inter-regional passengerrnsurvey on web-site to include the non-trip maker, and to empirically clarify the data quality aboutrnsocio-demographic characteristics by comparing in the possible index of sample bias. In this study,rnwe proposed a robust model building against the potential bias index. The trip frequency model thatrnrequires non-trip maker is statistically estimated, which is a distinguished characteristics of non-dailyrnoccurrence of inter-regional trip. The socio-demographic characteristics of the samples in websurveyrnare slightly different with that in conventional survey. The limitations and expectations ofrnweb-based survey for inter-regional passenger demand are summarized in concluding remarks.
