Aimed at these conditions that channel hopping which based on five pre-programed default hopping patterns supported by the ISA100.11a standard doesn't take the real-time change of channel quality into consideration and that the adaptive channel hopping in the ISA100.11a standard doesn't take communication overhead and utilization of communication links into consideration, a light-weighted cooperative adaptive channel hopping mechanism for small-scale ISA100 network is proposed. The mechanism selects a cooperative node among all terminal nodes through balancing the energy consumption of all terminal nodes, which periodically executes energy detection (ED) scanning on all channels to create available channel sequence and then informs coordinator of the available channel sequence. Moreover, the mechanism loads hopping parameters in the payload field of beacon frame to transmit, which can effectively reduce the overhead of communication in process of hopping. Finally, it is proved by the experiments that the proposed mechanism can reduce the complexity and additional communication overhead of adaptive channel hopping, overcome the blindness of default hopping patterns effectively, and achieve good anti-interference effect.
