It is expected that by the year 2020, a new mobile telecommunication standard will have rolled out that would allow more flexibility compared to today's systems. While the waveform for 5G is still a topic of much debate, three major contenders have been presented: OFDM, FBMC, and UFMC. In this paper, we will look over these waveforms and their proposed transceivers before going into the types of filters required for each transceiver design. Based on the requirements, the electronics device most appropriate will be selected and if possible, example filter circuits will be provided for each of the waveform transceivers.
