In this paper, a novel wide-angle scanning planar phased array based on wide-beam elements is presented. 5×5 annular ring patches, capable of radiating their patterns with half-power beamwidth (HPBW) of 137° and 140° in the E- and H-plane, are used as the basic elements. The TM21 mode of each annular ring patche is excited. The 25-element phased array is simulated, fabricated, and measured. Measured results show that the proposed array is able to scan its main beam from -60° to +65° and from -66° to +66° in its E- and H-plane, respectively.
