In this paper, we provide an experimental verification through circuit simulations of the equivalence between two widely adopted phase noise models in the case of both stationary and modulated white noise sources. The first method is an exact formulation provided by Demir et al., which is based on the so-called perturbation projection vector (PPV). The second is the popular approach based on Hajimiri and Lee's impulse sensitivity function (ISF). Simulations are carried out starting from actual oscillator circuits. The statistical properties of the predicted phase error are found to be practically the same, thus indicating an equivalence between the two descriptions.
