High stepping DC/DC topology for voltage source converters in low power renewable energy applications

This paper proposes a novel DC/DC converter topology that has the capability of achieving high voltage elevation factor from a single DC voltage source from a renewable energy source. The proposed step up principle is based on the generation of two isolated DC sources, they can be connected in series to have a high voltage stepping ratio, or in parallel to feed a Voltage Source Converter (VSC). This is possible thanks to the redesign of the classical boost DC/DC converter. A high voltage stepping is a feature needed in the interface of renewable energy sources to the grid, which is the main feature of this proposal. The other advantages that provide the use of this transformerless topology approach is that has a high power density, fewer number of power switching devices compared to other proposals with similar advantages, resulting in an improvement of efficiency.
