This paper presents a planar metamaterial harvester to convert incident electromagnetic wave to direct current with rectifying functionality. It consists of 6 by 6 metamaterial particles integrated with miniaturized rectifiers, engineered to maximize the absorbed wireless energy to be rectified. Experimental results show conversion efficiency of 44.5% when 2.45 GHz microwave with power density of 5 mW/cm2 is incident normally on the surface. This harvesting metamaterial can work in place of a rectenna in microwave power transmission applications that require super thin profile, easy assembling and high power capability.
