This paper describes the detail study of modified controller based on single phase instantaneous reactive power theory (IRPT) and its application to dynamic voltage restorer (DVR) for both linear and nonlinear load. In this paper systematic study of the controller is presented and suggested an effective control theory for single phase DVR. The controller concept is based on the correction of load voltage without any change in phase. A detailed analysis of modified single phase instantaneous reactive power theory is carried out. The modified controller is based on proportional integral (PI) gains to mitigate single phase voltage sag. The digital simulation of DVR connected single phase system has been performed using MATLAB for both linear and nonlinear load to prove the effectiveness of the modified controller. The simulation results indicates that the proposed controller can restore single phase voltage sag effectively.
