Global trends for electric equipment are energy saving, environmental protection, high reliability and safety. 3D core VPI transformers fit all trends with additional benefits to the end users. Energy saving regulations and standards should reflect the advantage of using less active materials for lower noload losses with lower carbon emission. Dry transformer applications that require high reliability and safety, harmonic mitigation and high overload capability would benefit in adopt 3D core VPI transformers. In the near future, technology evolutions on silicon steel, insulation design and insulation materials will enable 3D core transformers to have even lower noload losses and less active materials than today.
