The National Grid is planning for the new 400 kV overhead line with T-pylon towers where diamondlike insulation structures comprising of silicone rubber insulators according to Figure 1 will be used. In order to verify the dielectric (lightning and switching overvoltages) and ice performance of these structures, specially designed tests were performed at STRI. However, another issue for the environment of UK is pollution and thus it was also decided to develop and perform a three-phase pollution test specially intended for this unique structure. Thus, the goal of this paper was to verify the pollution performance using specially developed test.
