Classification of Makam structures in Turkish art music with using artificial neural network

İn this study, we aim at gathering more scientific information about the musical data by using computer techology, and we are willing, to some extent, figure out the maqam structure of Traditional Turkish Art Music interpreted in the compositions. For this reason, 120 compositions from among Muhayyer Kurdi, Acem Kurdi and Kurdi makams in Traditional Turkish Art Music have been analysed and these compositions have been transferred to computer as notes. The efficiency ratings, frequency of use of the notes and the duration of use of each piece's traditional Turkish art music maqam bases have been calculated. Eleven features of each piece were identified from these data and normalized within the data. After extracting the attributes belonging to the obtained data, artificial neural networks were used to classify in the modal analysis. Finally, we have observed that the data gained by research has similar patterns, to a large extent, with that of maqam structure of the Traditional Turkish Art music.
