Tree health monitoring is of paramount importance for the environment. It also has significant economic impacts associated with it. Trees must be monitored for death, diseases & epidemics and for drought conditions. Sensors that can achieve this include surface current sensors, which have been theorised. In this paper, we propose a system for forest monitoring using specially designed ICs which integrate a sensory element onto the chip, thereby providing robustness and accuracy in diagnosis. Electronic diagnosis can overcome the drawbacks of satellite based diagnosis and provide a more objective understanding than manual surveys.
