This paper presents a Dynamic Channel Assignment (DCA) algorithm implemented in Matlab. It uses a cross-correlation of power spectral density (PSD) estimations of individual WLAN channels. Estimations are based on Received Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI) level from different channels of individual clients in the IEEE 802.11 WLAN. Based on RSSI and current clients' needs for channel bandwidth, the central management system in the WLAN allocates channel to each of WAPs in order to minimize the channel interference. Minimization is based on finding the carrier frequency when the corresponding cross-correlation function is minimal. Measurements performed in WLAN network within premises of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, University of Banja Luka, confirm the justifiable practical application of the proposed algorithm.
