Communications, ie. the flow of information between people and services, during natural disasters is one of the key factors influencing the chances of surviving for the vulnerable population. These events can lead to immediate or complete failure of existing mass communication channels such as mobile telephony and the internet, partly due to damage and partly due to overload, and it is necessary to provide alternative channels of communication. Sensor networks that are part of the IoT concept can be important in these situations, but the problem with these networks is that in most cases they rely on an already existing mobile and internet network and have a limited capacity for power supply sources. That is why LPWAN networks for IoT connectivity are being developed, which can be used even in the absence of commercial communications infrastructures. This paper deals with the possibility of using LPWAN with distributed intelligence, which could be used during natural disasters for data exchange and processing, thus replacing the complete infrastructure of wireless and communication systems available from commercial GSM network operators.
