A novel method of High pressure-liquid chromatographic procedure (HPLC) for reproducibly measuring the levels of organic peroxides in compounded, stabilized uncured and cured ethylene-propylene monomer diene rubber is described. The degradation of peroxide cured EPDM isolation is being examined to find correlation between the change in mechanical properties and increase in concentration of peroxide in compounds. These correlations could be valuable for assessing the extent of degradation of peroxide cured EPDM isolation for MV cables. Investigations have shown that % of consumption of peroxides in EPDM compounds can be determined relatively easily using high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). While some peroxides are unstable, there have been found which are worth monitoring to correlate with the tensile properties of the EPDM isolation.
