The benefits of SR technology for hybrid-electric vehicles are discussed with the objective of achieving arnwide constant power region using a cost effective inverter. The design of the electrical sub-systemrncomprising the motor-generator and controller is described including the limitations of the battery. Designrntrade-offs are identified using a simulation model coupled with a rigorous methodology. A data-base ofrndesigns for similar applications is used to minimize effort and remove the need for multiple sample builds.rnThe methodology is illustrated using a 15kW motor-generator for a mild hybrid-electric passenger car.rnMeasured data is given for the prototype system.
