IR-ATR and fluorescence spectra clearly show evidence for transfer of more crystalline PET on PE side, when PET/PE/PET joints were peeled off. PET sides remain clean from PE transfer. This trend is true in non-treated PE/PET joints as well as in ehromate treated joints, regardless of the bonding temperature in the range of 180℃ to 230℃. Heating during joint formation may induce more crystallinity on PET surface which gets transferred to PE, when the joint is peeled off. Thus the failure in PET/PE/PET joints seems to be cohesive failure through PET at very near the interface or at least a mixed mode failure.
