Perlite is a material used for heat insulation, and 70 % of the world reserves are located in Turkey. Approximately 65 % of the perlite is consumed by the construction industry. Furthermore, perlite is used as a lightweight aggregate in brick manufacturing due to the lightness, thermal and acoustic insulation properties. In addition to conventional brick manufacturing perlite is mixed into clay to ensure high heat resistance in bricks. In this investigation, perlite of Eskisehir and clay were collated and fired to produce high heat conductivity resistant material. Binding materials such as cement, gypsum, lime, bitumen and clay were used in the mixtures. The standard sized bricks were manufactured with various perlite-clay mixture ratios. The unit weight, compressive strength, volumetric reduction and heat conductivity of specimens were investigated in experiments. The best mixture was determined depending on properties of bricks, and the cost optimization was also described. The experimental results were examined according to combination properties and it was seen that the best mixture is the one containing 30 % perlite.
