Gas migration problem after cementing the producing casing in oil /gas drilled wells is well known and costly for industry and also it is extremely difficult to prevent. The main objective of this research was to investigate the method to modify the cement properties in order to prevent gas migration during cement slurry and after cement set job. In Bandar Imam Petrochemical Company) BIPC) of Iran, waste products from polymer units are transmitted to an incinerator and are burned. The ash products from the incinerator are discharged to environment near by the company. Since the produced ash can cause the environmental damages, an attempt was made to use the ash as cement additive for oil/gas drilling wells. By sampling produced ash in periodic times and collecting all cement additives used in drilling / completion cement jobs in Iranian drilling operation, the effects of the ash on cement properties were experimentally investigated.rnIn this paper several tests were performed to study ash effects on physical properties of cement slurry and set cement. The parameters investigated in this paper were: rheology properties, fluid loss, permeability and porosity. Test results indicated that the use of ash as additive for cement class D as shown cause to increasing in GS and PV. The increasing GS and PV of cement by ash additives resulted to prevent gas migration through cement slurry. The addition of ash to class D cement causes to decrease the fluid loss considerably. Also permeability and porosity of set cement decreased with respect to increasing the concentration of ash in cement. These results have indicated, with increase of added ash to cement class G, the behavior of cement advances to eliminate of gas migration through cement as same as common additives used for cementing job in drilling industry.
