摘要

Microalgae are seen as a promising option to sustainably produce biomass since they can help tornreduce land use competition. The purpose of this work is to identify potential microalgae production sites and tornassess the microalgae biomass potential in North-West Europe. Therefore a GIS-based model was developed usingrnhigh resolution data on land use and climate data and data on infrastructure. With the help of this model the algaernbiomass potential depending on different land use restriction criteria was calculated. The results were presented asrnscenario analyses showing an available potential of 11.6 Mt a~(–1) in the default scenario and a bandwidth of 0.1 to 19rnMt a~(–1). The generated data on individual algae production sites include information on the distance of the plant torntransportation infrastructure and to sources for the supply of CO_2 and waste nutrients from industrial or municipalrnwaste streams.
