Sulfur is being producing in very large quantities as a by-product from crude oil and natural gas refining. This abundance of sulfur has prompted for further research and studies in order to examine its feasibility as a construction material with the advantage of its low price. The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the possibility of using sulfur by-product material to partially substitute for fine aggregate in concrete mixes. Fine aggregate was replaced with three percentages (10%, 20%, and 30%) of sulfur by weight. Test specimens for all concrete mixtures have been evaluated for compressive strength at 1,7, 14, 28,56, 90 and 180 days. The results were analyzed in comparison to the control specimens. Test results indicated that the compressive strength of concrete made with 10% sulfur replacement level was either comparable to or better than the control concrete. The main findings of this investigation revealed that the sulfur could be used successfully as partial substitute for fine aggregate in concrete mixes.
