Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) generated in Delhi is approximately 7000 tonnes per day. The quantity of wastes generated in terms of growth assumptions would be between 17000 to 25000 tonnes per day by 2021. Since the land available for landfills are limited in Delhi hence incinerating the MSW is also an important option to manage the MSW. The most common method of evaluation of the heating value of Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) is experimentally done by using bomb calorimeter and theoretically done by using Dulong's equation. In this paper, regression analysis is used to develop a predictive model of the energy content for MSW of Delhi. The advantage of this model is that it avoids over reliance on lengthy experimental techniques. The model is developed to correlate the energy content from the physical composition of the waste. The results obtained by this model are close to those obtained by Modified Dulong's Equation and is also simpler in operation for estimating the energy content of MSW.
