摘要

What is the perceptual determinant of environmental brightness? We assumed that environmental brightness would be determined by two perceptual components. One is perception of strength of light sources, and the other is perception of amount of light filled in the illuminated space. In experiment 1, we examined perception of strength of light sources and amount of diffusing light by using matching method. In experiment 2, we examined the relationship between the two perceived components and environmental brightness by using magnitude estimation method. The results of the two experiments showed that (1) the subjects could judge the strength of light sources and the amount of diffused light, and (2) environment brightness was primarily determined by the perceived amount of diffused light filled in the space, not by the perceived strength of light sources.
