Color appearance of red, yellow, green, and blue lights of CRT display presented across the horizontal meridian of the visual field were measured using an opponent type color evaluation. Effects of luminance level of the test stimuli, either equal luminance or equal brightness at the fovea, and surround conditions, dark, gray, or white surround, were investigated. Perceptual ratio of redness, yellowness, greenness, or blueness in the stimulus (we call it 'unique hue component' here) decreased from fovea to periphery. Differences of the test luminance and surround condition employed in this study did not affect the results. The present results of unique hue component normalized at the fovea remained within the distribution range of previous results using monochromatic lights.
