Recent trends for healthy, environmentally comfortable and energy conscious building design presume realistic simulation sky models to enable computer aided predictions of daylight conditions. Universal comparison and validation of sunlight and skylight availability is possible only on parametrisation bases normalising local horizontal illuminances by their simultaneous extraterrestrial value on a fictitious horizontal plane at the outer border of the atmosphere. Fifteen typical sky patterns were suggested for standardisation which allow to predetermine sky luminance distributions as well as their resulting diffuse skylight and sunlight illuminance either in relative or absolute terms world-wide. Under this purpose-orientated and world-effective sky standardisation universal comparisons of building designs or efficient light controls can be achieved with the expression of the energy conscious important coexistence of skylight and sunlight during sunny periods as well as the possibility to define sky luminance distributions within a certain window solid angle for glare or visual comfort predictions. A sky catalogue and a user-friendly computer program for practical use was worked out and both are for the first time introduced to public during this CIE Session in poster form.
