Recently the area of the Red Sea Hills in the Sudan including Sinkat district witnessed acute shortages of water supply. Some of the main reasons for these shortages, are inadequate rainfall and changes in the area's population and its distribution. The present study Investigates the variation of groundwater availability among different catchments in the Sinkat District, using a remote sensing approach. Different data sources were used; remotely sensed data and others. The methods of data analysis used are drainage basin analysis, lineament analysis. The results obtained from this study indicate that some factors show a big variation among the different catchments e.g. slopes, sediments thickness and lineaments concentration. Others like drainage density and drainage frequency show only slight variations. All these factors were studied with respect to their hydrological significant and the catchments with the most favourable conditions for groundwater availability were identified.
