Land parcel information includes large-scale maps and descriptions of rights and responsibilities concerning parcels. This information is important not only for securing the rights but also for sustainable use of land resources. However, in Zambia the fast increase in demand for land due the rapid population growth, has far outstripped the technological and staff capacity of the land administration system to provide land at the right time and in the most suitable locations. This has lead to various social and environmental problems. It is difficult or almost impossible that with the current technology and staff levels the situation can be improved. It is important therefore that alternative mass production technologies are adopted. High-resolution satellite imagery specifically with one metre resolution offers this possibility. However its adoption needs some changes in accuracy specifications and in the land administration process.
