In this paper, the water-surface equation; pressure distribution and the characteristic-index of the vertical-axes vortex are given. And both the Euler equation and the N-S equation are satisfied. According to the vortex's depth and vortex's radius measured in model test, the tangential velocity and angular velocity can be obtained accurately with the method proposed in the paper. In the prototype of the engineering, the depth of the vortex could be estimated approximately according to the strength of coming current.
