The ratio of sediment yields and gross-erosion is known as sediment delivery ratio (SDR). Knowledge of this ratio is important for optimal planning and design of may water resources developmental activities. In the present study, a remotely sensed data model has been proposed to estimate the SDR using the sediment routing approach. The gross soil erosion has been calculated using Universal Soil Loss Equation (USLE). Synergistic use of satellite data product, insitu observations and laboratory experimentation has been made to assess the various parameters needed to estimate the SDR. The study revealed that remote sensing techniques can provide many of the data required for the study. In general SDR for the Siwalik watersheds are more than 1.0. higher values are associated with the areas having landslides, rockslides and unstable steep slopes. The proposed model accounts for about 90% variation of the data. Input to the model can be easily extracted from remotely sensed data. The approach presented can be extended to other areas. It is expected that model will go a long way in planning and design of hydroelectric project.
