To change the Darwin width of a perfect crystal usually asymmetric Bragg reflection is used which involves always a modification of the beam geometry. It is shown that this is not necessary if special channel cut crystals (CCC) are used. The advantage of the new system is a constant beam width and moreover a tuneable Darwin width and therefore a tuneable FWHM of the rocking curve of the analyzer crystal of a double crystal diffractometer. First experiments demonstrate its feasibility in thermal neutron scattering.
