In this paper, it is proposed to add condensed silica fume (CSF) to improve the performance of SCC-equivalent mortar. Twelve mortar mixes with constant binder/fine aggregate ratio were produced. The water content and CSF content were varied among the mixes. The performance of the mortar mixes was evaluated by mini slump cone test, mini V-funnel test, rheometer test, and compressive strength test. Experimental results revealed thai at the same level of flowability, the mortar mixes containing CSF possessed higher viscosity than those without containing CSE Moreover, with the incorporation of 15% CSF, the mortar mixes exhibited the highest slump flow and flow rate compared with other dosages of CSF. It is hence suggested that the flowability and viscosity of the mortar phase in SCC can be increased simultaneously by adding suitable amount of CSF and this can be a way to achieve the dual requirements of high flowability and high segregation stability for SCC.
