In literature, the variation of the steady state rheological properties, especially yield stress and viscosity due to changes in several elements in the concrete mix proportions is well described. One particular item, namely the air content in concrete is difficult to control without the aid of air entraining agents (AEA). Most results obtained for the variation of rheological properties with air can be influenced by the surfactants present in the AEA.This paper describes the variation of yield stress and plastic viscosity of different SCC mixes without AEA. These concretes have different air contents, influenced by pumping. A physical model has been developed, based on the capillary number, which is the ratio of the shear stresses to the surface tension stresses. The validity of this model has been verified by means of the experiments, showing, with increasing air content, an increase in flow resistance at low shear rates and a decrease in flow resistance at high shear rates.
