Structural investigation of the structural features of either W-Ti-O or Mo-O based thin films is carried out by means of electron microscopy and X-Rays diffraction techniques. The study of the microstructural properties of these materials is aimed at correlating these features to the sensor's electrical response in order to optimize preparation of the films for gas sensing applications. The effect of thermal threatment over deposited W-Ti-O films together with investigation over the structural stability of MoO_3 layers is discussed.
