A new ring-shaped piezoelectric accelerometer has been investigated. The experimental results show that the proposed accelerometer exhibits a planar isotropy and allows to increase the sensitivity without decreasing at the same time, the operating frequency range. A further increase of the sensitivity has been achieved by stacking several of such elements, electrically connected in parallel.
