Tin oxide based gas sensors were prepared by the sol-gel process. Pure and Pd modified thin film devices were investigated and their sensing properties were analysed. Good sensitivity to methanol was obtained for Pd doped sensors. In addition, Transmission Electron Microscopy observations allowed to visualise the polycrystalline nature of the films and to measure the average grain size.
