The United States is in one of its most troublesome times. There are concerns about the economy, pollution, and petroleum consumption. One proposed method to help address these problems is an automobile buyback program. Several countries, including the United States, have implemented their own version of a vehicle buyback program. However, these proposed methods have focused only on buying back automobiles to reduce pollution or stimulate new automobile sales.rnTherefore, the purpose of this paper is to present the preliminary work on the economic modeling to assess the feasibility of creating a vehicle buyback program for vehicles across the U.S. The goal of this study is to produce an economic model that can be utilized to study the potential and feasibility of creating a vehicle buyback program to reduce GHG emissions, reduce oil U.S. consumption, stimulate the U.S. economy, and stimulate the scrap metal industry.
