The aerospace domain has long been identified as one of the most technically demanding fields. Its engineering, technical, and management (ETM) workers have had to deal with widely fluctuating budgetary conditions. This paper examines attitudes and behaviors among aerospace ETM workers and suggests that spirit at work (SAW) may elicit positive outcomes, namely increased altruistic behaviors, commitment and job satisfaction. The SAW construct consists of sense of community, engaging work, connection to something greater than self, and a unitive experience.rnThis study provides motivation for aerospace ETM managers and potentially managers of other highly technical fields interested in improving attitudes and behaviors within the workplace to begin an acknowledgment of SAW. The positive associations between SAW and every variable of interest analyzed here are remarkable and unmistakable.
