1. The pressure exchange process is a convenient process for the recovery of copper from complex solutions, not quite suitable for application of solvent extraction, particularly from chloride solutions. 2. It can be used for cleaning of complex Cu-Zn-Pb concentrates and/or upgrading of low grade copper concentrates, it is not suitable for the treatment of arsenic-and antimony-bearing minerals, since these are refractory to the process. 3. Inherently attractive to the PEP process is the use of the sulfide content of the concentrate as the active agent without the need of other external consumables. 4. The chloride system is preferred above the sulfate, because of the possibility of control of cocurrent acid generation, which cannot be avoided in the sulfate system. 5. Disadvantages of the pressure exchange process are the elevated temperature requirement as well as the fine grind, which are counteracted, however, by the benefits mentioned above.
