The key thermodynamic and physico-chemical data of metal ions and HCl in concentrated chloride media are reviewed and summarised. Activities, speciation diagrams, reduction potentials, and solubility data are provided on selected metal chlorides. The chloride complexes formed by various Groups of metals in the Periodic Table are discussed as well as the effect of chloride on redox potential. Particular focus is given to the solubility of Cu(Ⅰ), Ag(Ⅰ), Pb(Ⅱ) and Bi(Ⅲ) relevant to the processing of complex Cu/Pb/Zn sulphides and chalcopyrite in chloride media.
