There are numerous RF/Microwave coaxial connector applications that can be served by the cost saving benefits provided by design configurations that incorporate quick connect and release features. This discussion will focus on connector types that employ a quick release latching feature and will not include non threaded "blind mate" configurations. The introduction of Automated Test Equipment (ATE) has resulted in a demand for an alternative to standard screw on RF coaxial connectors. The accelerated testing speed permits a greater throughput, but overall efficiency is limited by the necessary hookup time. The industry demand for speed, accuracy, and performance has created a need for a cost effective non-threaded RF coaxial connector that is reliable and has excellent electrical characteristics over a broad bandwidth. The obvious advantage to the quick release configuration is the reduction of time and effort associated with connector coupling and uncoupling. This configuration also eliminates the reliability issues associated with screw type connectors when improper torque is applied at installation. A further advantage is provided if the design configuration is based on industry standard mating face specifications.
